I think that every cellist can remember the joy of that fateful moment in which you change your instrument and you go to the full size: in that moment there is the excitement of the change.
This passage, within a musical journey, is the symbol of a very desired and aspirated growth.
Anyway, once the enthusiasm and the euphoria are over, here it comes the indecision: Where should I look for the best instrument? Which liuther do I have to contact? What is the minimum budget to consider for a full size 4/4 cello?
Here it comes the moment of the action.
Buying a new instrument is a fundamental step that defines if music will accompany your life as a passion, an hobby, a work or as a study. As in everything in life, there are steps, and this moment is extremely crucial in a musical journey. Therefore, it is necessary to ask the correct questions in complete responsibility and consciousness, considering your own possibilities: a delicate and deep introspective journey full of honesty towards yourself.
I always say: choosing an instrument is not just a thoughtful choice, but, at the end of the day, it's also a choice from the heart. When you feel the strings vibrating with those of your soul, when you feel that no other instrument can compete, here you have made your choice. An instinctive choice, taken from an elaborated initial selection, but then taken only from your feelings on the instrument.
For those who have not yet understood the burden of this choice, I want to explain to you that the passage to a full size cello is synonym with a life choice. Ok, I know that you are thinking that an instrument can be obviously changed, but I want you to ask you if it's that easy for you to change a car, or even more, a house. Definitely not a snap decision!
I don't want to lie to you: over time your needs may change and so you may have the desire to live again the moment of the choice. But, remember: the first time will preserve its uniqueness forever.
"Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow know what your truly want to become." (Steve Jobs)
